SCAdian of the month
Lady Marie Aoibeall
Carolyn Poynter
When did you start in the SCA?
I have actually been in the SCA since birth. My parents were already a part of the local SCA group. They met at an event in the kingdom of Caid
Where did you start your SCA adventure?
I started in the Barony of Calafia, which is in the Kingdom of Caid. The Barony is located in San Diego County, California.
What is your favorite part of the SCA?
I love the family feeling of this group. Most of the people I consider family are involved in the SCA. I also love the service aspect as well.
What was your most memorable event in the SCA so far?
May Potrero War in 2009 was a very special event for me. My husband proposed in full armor, after acquiring permission from the King and Queen of course. What proceeded after was a fun filled bit of gauntlet throwing between my war band, Knight, and squire brothers for which my Husband excepted. They wanted him to prove his mettle prior to the wedding. It was a “Challenging” time!
What would you tell a newcomer to look forward to in the SCA?
Comradery is something that is a large part of the overall experience in the SCA in my option. Sharing the excitement of battle, the joy of service, and the friendship of an entire barony is something that will stay with you for a lifetime. Also the plethora of learning experiences allows for a large amount of creativity. The sheer amount of information and skills people are willing to share will you is difficult to find anywhere else.
