When did you start in the SCA?

The Buckston Demo at the Library in Hillsborough, NC was when I actually joined. I remember the date well. It was June 6, 2015. Yep. It was D-Day. I have to laugh when I think of it like that. .

Where did you start your SCA adventure?

Although I only joined in 2015, my adventure started in 2010. My first ever event was Ymir, and I was taken there by a friend of mine who was Seneschal of the Danville, VA chapter in Black Diamond. (I couldn’t even tell you what the canton’s name was) before it was disbanded for lack of members. I had the time of my life at Ymir, and I had wanted to join ever sense, but things just prevented it. I still read up on things on the SCA sites and always kind of knew what was going on. I knew I’d join eventually.

What is your favorite part of the SCA?

There are too many “favorite parts” to list only one. I love the camping out and hanging out by the fire at night hearing song and stories. I love the garb and the pageantry. I’m really enjoying all the crafts and things. I’m especially loving all the new friends that I have made. These friendships I have found already seem more solid than many I have had in my “modern” life. I suppose the SCA, in and of itself, is my favorite part.

What was your most memorable event in the SCA so far?

I’ve not been around long at all, and have only been to a handful of events, but the most memorable, I believe, has been the Conquest of Granada. This was my first “real” event where I kind of had a clue what was going on. I enjoyed camping, getting to know people, hearing all the stories from other events, and of course the Elephant Stomp. My word, I had a blast at the Elephant Stomp!

What would you tell a newcomer to look forward to in the SCA?

There are so many things to discover. Not just medieval things, but things about themselves. I’ve learned so much in the past several months. I can feel myself growing on almost a daily basis. I’m gaining more confidence. I’m gaining more wisdom, and I’m certainly gaining more friends.
